Aw, I'm sorry.
If you get another cat try introducing them first, don't just bring them in cold. It can work out well, or horribly, depending on the personalities.

Yes, we got two kittens from different people, and after the initial hissy fits they've become friends. My partner felt the house was just too empty without cats. Then you have this weird feeling that you're betraying their memory by replacing them (and in forgetful moments you call them by the name of a previous cat), but it is working out fine.

I've heard that introducing a kitten can rejuvenate an older cat, but you have to watch the jealousy thing at first.
